Concussion Management

A concussion is a traumatic brain injury that affects how your brain functions. These effects can include headaches and difficulties with concentration, memory, balance and coordination. Concussions are usually caused by a blow to the head or a blow to the body that results in excessive head movement.

Services

Our athletic trainers are able to offer pre-injury baseline and post-injury concussion testing for individuals, club sports teams, and school athletic programs. We utilize the most current tools and methods in concussion management to ensure a comprehensive assessment for each individual.

3 Options

  1. Pre-Injury Baseline: For individuals ages 5+. For teams ages 12+. Price varies.
  2. Post-Injury Evaluation: This includes a full evaluation, ImPACT testing and development of treatment plan. $75.
  3. Post-Concussion Management: Return to Play and Return to Learn. $50 for re-evaluations if needed.

Rehab Program

After each assessment a personalized rehabilitation program is developed to ensure a safe recovery and return-to-play experience. We are able to see individuals within days of their injury and are readily accessible to them throughout the entire rehabilitation process.

ImPACT Testing

We utilize the ImPACT® neurocognitive test to provide clinically relevant numbers. Having this data is really important before a concussion occurs so that we are able to successfully compare the data. Our clinical tests also look at the function of the brain and its ability to code information.

Return to Play

The return to play protocol varies for each individual. It includes a progressive exercise program which endures that the brain is able to tolerate increased demands of sport, in a safe environment.

This process is recommended by the CDC and is a requirement by the state of Washington and Idaho. These steps are done in our clinic with a licensed athletic trainer.

Return to Learn

The return to learn process is relatively new in the discussion of concussion management. Because a concussion is the only sport related injury that can have a direct impact on a child’s ability to learn, it may be necessary to adjust schoolwork, or school related activities.

With our clinical testing and management, we can determine what your child is able to tolerate and make proper adjustments as needed.
