Our Story

Our story starts with a vision. Create an experience where clients and colleagues love to come to improve not only their physical performance, but also their mental and spiritual side.

Vision

In the spring of 2004, Brian Cronin, Jeff Hart, and Mike Nilson came together to combine their backgrounds as physical therapists, certified strength and conditioning specialists, coaches, athletes, husbands, fathers, and most importantly, friends.

Mission

Our first step was to create a mission statement we believed in and were inspired by.

“Our mission is to create a welcoming, healing and inspiring environment that empowers people to meet their health and well-being potential. Through encouragement, teamwork, and development the U-District Team is called to serve our community.”

Our Name

We started with a facility in Spokane, Washington because we believed in the Spokane community and the University District vision. We proudly became the first business to adopt the “U-District” name.

Our business name, U-District PT, encompasses the essence of our mission statement by uniquely combining the fields of Physical Therapy, Performance Training, and Personal Training.

First Home

After deciding upon a name, we just needed a building to turn our dream into a reality. With a little imagination, vision, and hard work, 125 S. Cowley was transformed from an old warehouse to a state of the art training facility.

Friends and family were recruited to clean, rip up carpets, paint walls, and build tables. Within one month, we were ready to open. Our next order of business was finding our first client.

Our Goal

Our goal the first month was to see one client per day, and make their U-District “experience” so unbelievable that they would tell everyone.

Today, our goal is unchanged. Create that same U-District “experience” for each and every client by enhancing their physical, mental, and spiritual selves.

3 Locations

We now offer that same U-District experience in 3 locations: Downtown Spokane, Kendall Yards and Liberty Lake.

The Downtown location is home to our 18,000 sq ft training center that has 40 yards of indoor field turf, basketball court and 8 full squat racks.

Our Team

After being a former athlete and physical therapist at U-District for many years, Matt Roth joined the ownership group in 2022.

Our team has grown to include over 60 physical therapists, PT assistants, aides, strength coaches, personal trainers, mental health counselors, sports psychology and mental performance coaches, nutritionists and office staff.

In 2007 we started the U-District Foundation, a non-profit designed to inspire our youth to live active, healthy lives. We run yearly free Fitness Camps, Fun Runs, Family Challenges and a mentorship program.
